Klaus (Joseph Morgan) has always been one of the most complicated characters on The Vampire Diaries. In Season 4, Episode 12, “A View to a Kill,” he had a lengthy conversation with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) about being bad “with a purpose” versus merely doing things “to be a dick.”
The OV has lashed out numerous times, but in Season 4, Episode 20 — the backdoor pilot for The Originals spin-off — he might do something that makes him genuinely feel regret. In fact, Klaus is so “self-destructive,” according to a Deadline spoiler, that he flees Mystic Falls. Elijah (Daniel Gillies) tries to assist his brother, who is in need of redemption.
Apparently that’s not the only reason Klaus returns to his old haunt. “The idea is that a turn of events in Mystic Falls sends Klaus to New Orleans to solve a mystery,” Julie Plec tells Entertainment Weekly. “He gets word that some people are making a move against him that might concern him. So he heads to New Orleans to try to figure who’s plotting against him and what they’re up to.”
Doing a little detective work is all well and good, but we’re reminded of when Elijah left Mystic Falls. He felt repulsed by his behavior towardElena (Nina Dobrev). There’s one person Klaus cares about so much, we can see him deeply regretting hurting her in any way: Caroline (Candice Accola).
Hopefully the blond vampire has nothing to do with Klaus’s shame spiral.
